To be honest, as soon as they heard about this safety training program, everyone thought it was just a routine task and that it could be accomplished with relatively little effort.
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, a fire prevention training was held at the factory. The workers in the workshop, salespeople, and the boss gathered in the office. The projector showed an online live broadcast. It did not explain any complicated theories; it merely demonstrated the process of "how fires occur".
After listening to it, I was able to think deeply. Although we are in the sheet metal processing industry, our products are mainly exported to Australia, New Zealand, and we are also expanding into markets such as Canada, the United States, Europe, etc. Our products: Ute canopy, Ute tray, toolbox and other accessories are mainly made of aluminum flate alloy plate, steel and stainless steel. During the processes of cutting, bending, welding, and polishing, powder is generated. If the powder is not cleaned up for a long time, it will become a fire source. Also, the long-term operation of the machines will cause the temperature to rise, which may develop into a fire. Because in China, as soon as any natural disasters or human disasters occur, immediate rescue will be carried out, demonstrating a sense of patriotism, which is very touching.
1.All fires initially start as "minor incidents", but they can eventually escalate into major events.
We used to think that fires were just "roaring" explosions. But training has taught us that this is not the case! It could be:
A ventilation fan that has never been maintained and whose bearings are almost burnt out.
• Behind the CNC machine, metal dust gradually accumulates over time and when the wind blows, it spreads everywhere.
A dirty rag with oil stains carelessly left there, not cleaned up and placed in a corner.
The most terrifying thing is: from the occurrence of these "minor incidents" to the actual fire outbreak, there is an interval of nearly 20 minutes! And these 20 minutes are the precious time for saving lives.
2. Safety means remaining vigilant at all times.
The most meaningful part of the training was taking us on a tour of the entire workshop. The safety officer pointed out the areas we pass by every day and said:
"Look at this wire. It was just a temporary connection before, but now it has become a permanent line."
"Why are these goods piled so close to the welders? What if sparks fly and hit us?"
"This gas pipeline must not be close to any heat source."
I immediately understood: Safety is not just about filling out a form every month; it also lies in being able to detect these subtle changes in the daily environment and correcting them in time.
3. When the situation really gets out of control, people will be completely stunned.
We watched a video about fire monitoring, which lasted only 90 seconds:
In the first 30 seconds, thick smoke was billowing and nothing could be seen.
Within 60 seconds, the temperature in the room could rise to a level high enough to burn a person.
"At that moment, you will feel extreme panic and instinctively want to hide or run back to get your phone."
4. Fire extinguishers are not merely for decoration purposes; they must be used correctly.
Apart from simply inspecting the fire extinguishers, we have also drawn some conclusions:
• Red bottles (dry powder): Can be used for most common fire situations in workshops.
• Black bottles (carbon dioxide): Use this bottle when a fire involving precision equipment or electric control switches occurs. However, please ensure proper ventilation to prevent suffocation.
• Key tip: Aim the spray at the base of the flame, not the upper part of the flame.
5. In our field, some risks are inevitable.
In the manufacturing industry, certain risks cannot be avoided:
• Metal dust, such as aluminum powder and magnesium powder, will explode when mixed with flames in the air.
• Spraying oil mist onto a hot surface may cause sudden ignition.
• The splatter from welding may fly far and ignite other items.
Therefore, keeping items tidy and cleaning them in time is no small matter.
What we do is to reflect on one thing: We work hard every day just to do a good job and get home safely. This is more important than anything else.
